Shani Sade Sati occurs when Saturn transits through the sign before, the sign of, and the sign after your Chandra Rashi (Moon sign). It is not inherently negative - Shani teaches discipline and patience - but it does require awareness. Mangal Dosha (also called Kuja Dosha) happens when Mars occupies specific houses - the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th - in the birth chart. Each planet is associated with specific materials, grains, or items that, when donated on the planet's day, are said to reduce its malefic influence. Shani, for example, is associated with black sesame seeds, iron, and mustard oil. Yagya and Puja - performing Graha Shanti pujas for the specific planet causing difficulty is a traditional approach mentioned in texts like the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra.
